Configuring Users in Active Directory

Learn how to add and edit AD user.

You can configure to authenticate the requester login with the active directory (AD). On configuring AD authentication, the requesters can login using the login name and password of the system. User accounts allow a person to access resources on a network. The administrator can deny access to certain resources on the network through the user account.

Adding User

You can create users and assign roles.

To add a user:

  1. Go to Administration > User Administration > Users.
    2. Click Add userto add a user.

Enter the login name and click Check User.

The Check User button checks for the user in the AD (Active Directory). If the user exists in AD, the fields are automatically populated with the values. If the user doesn't exist in AD, a message User does not exist in active directory is displayed. 

 NOTE:
1. A Check User button appears only when AD authentication is enabled. To Enable AD authentication, contact VHQ Support.
2. If Active Directory based authentication is enabled in VHQ, then there is no need to pre-create the VHQ users from VHQ GUI. When users successfully log in to VHQ, and their user accounts are automatically created in VHQ, they can edit their VHQ user profile, and also specify their preference to get alert notification e-mails from VHQ server.

Setting User Hierarchy

You can also set user hierarchy. A user hierarchy represents level and value.

To set user hierarchy:

  1. Click Select Hierarchy in Add User screen.
    2. Click Add.

You can see the user name at the top right corner of the screen. The user is listed in the Users screen.Managing Users1a

NOTE:
If the login name already exists, a message Login name already exists. Please enter a different login name is displayed.

Editing User

You can edit a user.

To edit user:

  1. Go to Administration > User Administration > Users.
    2. Select a user and click Edit userto edit a user.

    3. Click Select Hierarchy to assign a hierarchy to the user. You can view the user role under Roles, set user alerts and view the alert severity. You can also select multiple user alerts.
    4. Click Save to apply the changes.
