Manual Scheduling of Software Downloads
Uploading a Software Package
You can add software package.
To add software package:
- Go to Device Management > Manage Downloads > Download Library.
- Click (Add Package) to add package to download library.
- Browse and select the package to upload. You can upload Bundles (.TGZ, .tar files) for V/OS based Devices, VPI Packages (.ZIP files) for eVo based Devices to configure Software Packages.
The packages .bintbl extension will be used for VCL BIN Table Updates.
The max length of file name, for packages uploaded to the VHQ download library is 248 characters. Although the VHQ GUI allows a package to be uploaded, whose file name length is up to 248 characters,
the actual length of the package file satisfies the additional constraint given below, based on the device to which this package will be downloaded.
- For MX8xx and MX760 devices, the maximum length of package file name must not exceed 32 characters.
- For Verix eVo devices, the maximum length of package file name must not exceed 32 characters.
- For MX9xx and Ux devices, the maximum length of package file name must not exceed 85 characters.
- Enter the Package Name in the box.
- Select device models to which the package is compatible from the Model(s) drop-down list. If you want to include all the models, select All Models check box.
- Select the Package Type in the drop-down list.
- Enter the Package Version and Tags in the respective boxes. You can use the Tags to search for the Package in the Download Library.
- Specify the post installation action to either reboot or restart the application(s) or none.
NOTE: The V/OS bundles must contain the control files to qualify for Automated downloads. VPI Packages must contain Manifest files to qualify for Automated downloads. For more details, refer the structure of V/OS Bundles and VPI Packages.
9.Click Add. The Package is successfully added to the Download Library.
10. You can view the applications that are part of imported packages under the Applications tab.
NOTE:
1. The Package Type and File version are used only for the user information. These details are not used as part of any processing logic.
2. The Post Install Action is not available for some of the Packages. For such Packages, VHQ Agent on Device takes care of the required Post install actions.
3. The Post Install Action Restart Application (s) does not restart the VHQ Agent application in a device, but restarts all other applications running on a device. If VHQ Agent must be restarted after downloading a file to a device, then the Reboot post-install option should be selected before uploading the given file to the VHQ server library.
Manual Scheduling of Software
The parameters are downloaded to the devices when the user manually schedules the software. The user can configure parameters and manually schedule downloads of these parameters using the current scheduling options. The parameters configured for the device at the time of scheduling the download is downloaded to the device.
To schedule manual downloads:
- Go to Device Management > Manage Downloads > Schedule Downloads. The Schedule Downloads screen is displayed.
- Specify the Job Name and Tags. By default, an auto-generated name is displayed in the Job Name text box. The user can specify a preferred job name. The tag is an identifier while using search option. You must select packages, to schedule downloads.
- Click Schedule. The same screen can be viewed or invoked directly in the Device Management tab.
- Click Schedule tab. Click Submit.
- You must select packages, to schedule downloads. You can also schedule a download to Carbon devices. Only the packages successfully uploaded to MDM are available for scheduling. VHQ detects that this the package needs to be pushed to tablet through MDM. VHQ sends the download schedule to MDM (invokes MDM APIs) and updates the Job status back in VHQ. You can also upload the OS file (.zip) to download library.
NOTE: The OS files can be one of the following:
· Full OS - Typical file size 900MB
· Incremental OS updates - file size up to max of 900MB
· Boot image - Typical file size 15MB
7.On selecting Packages Already Assigned, the user is provided with two more options:
- Software and Parameters: On selecting this option the software and parameters are downloaded to the selected devices.
- Only Parameters: On selecting this option only parameters are downloaded to the selected devices.
8. On selecting Only Parameters, the user is provided with two more options:
- All Parameters: On selecting this option, all parameters are downloaded to the device.
- Only Changed Parameters (from last Sync): On selecting this option only changed parameters from last sync are downloaded.
NOTE: Downloads will be failed to the devices which does not have packages assignment when packages already assigned checkbox is selected.
9. Packages that qualify for the selected device models are listed. If none of the packages qualify, the user is intimated with a pop-up message, No Package(s) qualifies for the selected Device Models.
NOTE: User can select up to 100 packages while performing manual downloads. The VHQ Agent version older than 2.11 will not be able to process operation sets with more than 100 packages. However, for the devices which have the VHQ Agent version older than 2.11 the operation sets will be divided with each containing 10 packages.
10. Click up and down arrow to set the order in which Packages should be downloaded. An order of precedence is a sequential arranging of packages for download. With sequential arrangement the selected packages are placed one after another.
You can define when to download the Packages by choosing the Download On options:
- Next maintenance window: Select this option to download the Packages during the next maintenance window of the Device.
- Next contact: Select this option to schedule downloads, when the Device sends next Heartbeat.
NOTE:
- Any communication made from the device on Next Contact includes the Status, Events, Maintenance Heartbeat or Heartbeat communication, except the Key Exchange message. For each of this contact from device, if Management Plan is available for the device at that point of time it will be sent to the device.
- It supports downloads to tablet during Maintenance window of payment devices
- Date: Select this option to download the Packages on a specific date and time. The date and time refer to the local date/time of the device.
- Next available free time slot: Select this option to download the Packages by identifying free time slot. The VHQ server is notified to look for the next available free time slot by specifying a period using Download Period or Next option.
- Select the Download Period option to specify the date and time range. User can specify the start and end date by selecting From and To options.
- Selecting Now allows user to look for the free time slot immediately. 11. Enter the number of days in the Next option. The VHQ server is notified to look for available free time slot for the specified number of days.
11. Selecting the checkbox Download during maintenance window allows user to notify VHQ server to download packages only during the maintenance window of the available free time slot.
12. You can define when the downloaded package must be installed on the Devices by choosing Apply On option.
- Immediately after download: Select this option to install the Packages immediately after the download is completed.
- Date: Select this option to install the Packages on a specific date and time. The date and time refer to the local date/time of the device. This date must be greater than the date and time that is specified when the package has to be downloaded.
13. Click Submit.
You can view the results in the Results tab.
- The Succeeded Devices tab lists the devices for which download was scheduled successfully.
- The Failed Devices tab lists the devices for which download could not be scheduled.
Failed Devices:
- Automatic Scheduling failed due to unavailability of Maintenance Window Details for some of the devices.
- Automatic Scheduling failed because Maintenance Window Details do not fall under specified period for some of the devices.
- Automatic Scheduling failed due to unavailability of time slots within a specified period.
NOTE: The new system configuration Include Inactive Devices for Scheduling is introduced in the VHQ system. The advantage of setting the flag to True allows you to include inactive devices for scheduling downloads and setting the flag to False will exclude the Inactive devices from scheduling
Results
You can view the results in the Results tab.
- The Succeeded Devices tab lists the devices for which download was scheduled successfully.
- The Failed Devices tab lists the devices for which download could not be scheduled.
Manual Download through Device Profile
